Coppell milks Farmers for all they’re worth
by Blake Seitz Sports Editor Coppell has had bad luck with turnovers this year, and Friday night was no exception. The curse went both ways in yesterday’s game against Lewisville, though, allowing the Cowboys to post a decisive 48-0 win. The offense put up convincing numbers against a lackluster Lewisville defense. Senior quarterback Hayden Hawk threw for one touchdown on the night, a low number only because Coppell’s ground game was unstoppable in the red zone: five of Coppell’s six touchdowns were on runs of less than five yards. Senior running back Cam McDaniel was once again the offense’s workhorse, scoring all five of the touchdowns mentioned above. He was not confined to a role…
Nice weather on its way in Coppell
Story by Peter Sblendorio Staff Writer After nearly a week of cold and rainy weather in Coppell, the ten-day forecast is looking promising. The high for the weekend is 70 degrees on Sunday, with a high of 69 degrees coming tomorrow. The temperature is likely to dip down into low 50s or high 40s come nighttime, though no rain is projected. Similar highs and lows will last throughout the week, with the highest high temperature coming on Monday at 71 degrees and most lows settling around the low 50s. This change in weather will make outdoor practices more manageable for Coppell sports teams than they were this week, as the weather will be far more…
Top Three Halloween Films
1. Night of The Living Dead (1968) George Romero is a brilliant film maker, and in my opinion his debut “Night of the Living Dead” is his best moment. Basically you probably already know the story, the world is overrun with zombies(previously dead humans who have now come back to life for an unknown reason). From it’s terrifying opening to it’s incredible close, it is a rare horror that not only scares but comments on racial tensions inherent in American life. 2. Audition (1999) If one had not seen any Takashi Miike and then watched Audition for most of the movie they would be surprised, because for a Director known for his dynamic and visual sometimes brutal…
Top five scary stories
By Maddie Walters Staff Writer With the arrival of Halloween just around the bend, I present to you the top five scary stories. 5. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Although this story is meant to be a parody of Gothic literature, it delivers a significant amount of horror throughout its context. The main character, Catherine Morland, is over-read in Gothic literature and as such, she creates an environment of surrounded and haunted by the gothic elements her heroes and heroines encounter in their tales. This book is enjoyable for anyone to read, but does involve a significant amount of romance - boys be warned. 4. The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe Possibly one of the…
Top 3 songs of the week
Rarely do I have much down time during the week to browse the web for new music, but when I get the chance to, it’s always interesting to see what I’ll find. I somehow found the time this week to find some new music to listen to, and also the time to write about them. “Crown on the Ground” by Sleigh Bells: Pitchfork.com is a good place to find new music. The site posts new reviewed tracks each week, and this happened to be one. A friend of mine said it was absolutely necessary that I listen to it. The first thing I thought it when hearing it was that it was very loud. Even with…
Graveyard Tourism: A New Phenomenon
By Angela Almeida Opinions Editor In search of the deceased this Halloween weekend? Jim Tipton might just be your answer. Tipton, founder of Find a Grave, an online database which tells you the grave sites for your favorite stars, is becoming a legend. A new idea has even derived out of the success of his website dubbed “Graveyard Tourism”, where individuals scower the globe in search of tombstones of the timeless. On Find a Grave, one is able to search in the “Claim to Fame” category for actors, actresses and athletes alike. I searched ”Michael Jackson” to see where he lays six feet under. According to Find a Grave, he is resting in the Great Mausoleum in Glendale, California….
Halloween creeps around the corner
BOO!!! The word most commonly associated with Halloween, right after screams of terror. Halloween is creeping right around the corner, and so far has brought with it a slue of Halloween stores popping out of the ground like the dead rising from their graves. Tomorrow, the 31st, marks the culmination of this sacred scare-fest, and is also one of the days with the highest misdemeanor rates. Though Halloween has deviated far from its religious roots as All Hallow’s Eve, when children would go begging for soul cakes, it is still a way of life in many places, evident in the proliferation of commercial goods and corny puns. So, in the “spirit” of Halloween, have a…

Lariettes ‘thrill’ the crowd at pep rally
I loved Michael Jackson. I loved his hit song “Thriller”. I LOVED the Lariette’s dance to a Michael Jackson mix, ending with “Thriller”. As soon as I saw the white gloves on the senior Lariette’s today, I knew it that their dance was going to be a tribute to MJ and one of their best performances of the year; I was right. The mix included dance moves from all of Jackson’s best videos and was the ultimate tribute. But, when the sophomore and junior Lariettes came out dressed as zombies, I died. In the movie 13 Going on 30, the lead actress Jennifer Garner did the original “Thriller” dance; I rewinded the movie at least 50…
School policy on sex ed insufficient
By Satvika Ananth Staff Writer Let’s be real here. There are few things about our situation that we must make clear before we truly begin this discussion. First of all, we live in the 21st century. That means an influx of sex, drugs and alcohol is in our pop culture. Not only do we watch television about sex, we listen to music about it, read books over it and then have lovely little discussions of it in and out of school with our friends. What we don’t have? Lovely little discussions about the realities of life, in a safe, pressure-free environment. Secondly, we live with a generation gap. While we may relate to our parents…
