Senior Jinny Kim pursues future in golfing pastime

By Peyton Wood Staff Writer        Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Michelle Wie are just a few of the golf legends that define the sport today. Kim has been golfing for four years and played for the Coppell girls golf team since her freshman year. “Overall, Jinny has improved in every aspect of the game from off the tee and her short game,” girls golf coach Kirk Richardson said. “She has a tremendous work ethic. She works hard and practices all the time.” Kim picked up golfing because of her father’s love for the sport. He…

A Stressful Youth

Your youthful days are said to be “the golden days”, but for most CHS students, adolescence seems to be a pain in the neck. Even though we spend majority of our waking time at school with our friends and have weekends to relax, leisure time seems to be dwindling away by the second while stress engulfs our lives. “Life isn’t exactly wonderful right now because it’s so stressful,” said junior Adam Warner. And many students seem to agree. Although teenagers are recommended 9 hours minimum of sleep, the goal seems unattainable. A student that wakes at 6 a.m. would need to retire no later than 9 o’ clock, leaving students 5 hours and 10 minutes…

Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Every now and then, you’ll discover a book that makes you rethink the way literature ought to be written. Maybe this book has different writing style and pattern or it portrays its characters thoughts in a new light. Whatever the reason, this book opens up a new door of literature for you.                 Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author of Everything is Illuminated, is one such novel that, while its approach isn’t exactly new, the material is entirely original and that’s what makes it such an acclaimed read.                 The story revolves around three characters and the tragic yet incredible lives that they lead. Oskar, a nine year old boy…

The pros and cons of concert venues.

You always hear the term, bigger is better. But when it comes to concert venues, is this always the case? I think this calls for a pro and con comparison! We’ll start this off with the larger venue. Pros: Sound. This can make all the difference in deciding what is and is not a good concert venue. Even if you’re far away in the seats, or up close in general admission, the sound quality at larger venues is magnificent. There’s also much more space and a greater chance to get a ticket. Not to mention there is more parking which makes anyone happy even if you’re not driving. It means less frustrati0n for the driver…

Manara charter school opening, causes controversy among Coppell citizens

By Angela Almeida                                                                                                                 Opinions Editor A new addition has been added to the realm of Coppell education: Manara Academy. As the second charter school in Coppell, Manara’s opening on Aug. 24 marked a milestone in local education. Manara, which opened in the former Christ Our Savior Lutheran church on Heartz Road, has open-enrollment for all students in elementary grade levels. However, the environment at Manara differs greatly from that of Coppell ISD schools, as its program focuses itself on Expeditionary Learning (ELS). “We are the only school in Coppell that uses the Expedition method of teaching,” Manara French teacher Sophia Alami said. “Students learn hands-on by doing instead of listening to teachers stand in front…
